Planning costumes

We began planning the basic costumes we will want for our music video. We would need to plan costumes for the lead singer, dancers and rapper.

For the lead singer:

  • We want the lead singer to wear a white flowing mesh skirt and white crop top for the 1st element. This will be for the flourescent light tube maze element.

The reason we chose this outfit is because is because it heigtens the sexuality of our artist. In most music videos of the R&B genre, it is a popular convention for women to be dressed minimally and provocatively. This is meant to reflect the female empowernment message in most female R&B songs.

  • She will wear a cat suit for the silhouette wheel element, this is the 2nd element. This is because we want to create the illusion that the singer is nude.
  • She will wear the same cat suit for the silhouette screens. This is because we want to create the illusion that the singer is nude.
  • For the 4th element she will wear a black tube top and black pants. This will be for the dance sequence.

The outfit for this fourth element, is fashionable and fits in with the fashion trend at the moment. This will allow the artist's target audience to identify with her and imitate her style. Therefore increasing the artists profile and notoriety in the industry by becoming an admired icon. According to Keith Negus (Media Theorist) the artist could be considered synthetic. Synthetic artists are those constructed by a record company (a similar approach on how we constructed our artist). Synthetic artist usually coencide and reflect the trends of the time and are targeted for younger audiences (just in our case, where our target audience are 18-21 year old females). Younger audiences usually consume more synthetic artist because their ideologies are less sophisticated than 'Organic' artists'. Just like synthetic artists' our singer is marketed mainly based off their looks and personality.

For the dancers (2 dancers):
  • They will wear cat suit for the silhouette screen element

  • They will also wear a black tight top with black pants for the dance sequence. We also want them to wear a mesh black wraped scarf around their waist which they can take off, during the dance sequence.

For the rapper:
  • He will wear a white shirt, with jeans and timberland boots, we also would want him to be wearing some jewellry such as chains and rings.
