After having reflected on our feedback and completed our individual targets, we met again in our group and discussed our updated treatment. We asked members of the media department on our now revised idea (including the Neon cube, the silhouette wheel and the screens).
A lot of the feedback now was to perhaps reconsider the ‘Neon’ cube idea overall, as it is a popular element that is being used by various other groups. Additionally, when we have the cube in a lit room, the effect of neon cube will become dull and ineffective; this is because the neon lights will not be as visible in a lit room and will not look good as a shot.
This made us develop the element of the cube, we still wanted to keep the idea that she was caged, but perhaps assemble the neon light tubes in a different format.
This made us think of having the neon tubes stand in a line, so that when the artist interacts with them it will look as if she is caged. This allowed us to keep the idea and message we wanted but do something simple and different.
Another point was to incorporate the neon tubes throughout the set so that there is a link between the elements. For example we thought of possibly having neon light tubes strewn across the floor during the other elements, so that there is a link between the neon cage idea.
For the silhouette wheel we will use trace for the back of the wheel so that it evenly disperses the light to give a strong silhouette of the artist. We will also use the trace material for the screens which the dancers and singers will dance behind.
One piece of advice given was to shoot more than we would need to. Especially, for the scenes with the rapper we could have more shots of him in different positions and environments instead of the lips, so that we can always have more footage to cut into if we can’t fill the time.We thought that the rapper could be on a big armchair so that it has a striking silhouette; additionally, we could have shots of his hand with rings on them and close up shots of him smoking a cigar and the smoke drifting out of his mouth. This will give us more footage to use and will give an extra element and dynamic to the video, without it being difficult to film.
Lastly, we reassessed our idea of using a pink background for the dance scene. Due to the mysterious and dark elements/nature of the video, the colour pink might not fit well with this. Therefore we thought of using perhaps a more pastel and neutral pink or other colours similar; or using a metal/industrial backdrop for the close-up scenes and dance break.
