Why do artists use websites and how do they use them?

A website allows an artist to construct their image and showcase their ideologies to their fan base. Therefore, their audiences will gain more admiration for them and will share their views; which will strengthen the relationship between the artist and audience.

The use of the internet is key for artists because not only does it advertise them but it allows them to achieve a global following, which increases their fan base and increases their following. The website allows the artist to officially present themselves and provide more info about themselves, ideologies and persona.

Most websites are connected to social media platforms, these offer the ability for audiences to discuss the artist across multiple online platforms, which in turn increases the artists status and notoriety.

Social media and websites create a channel for artists and fans to communicate and connect; this follows Dyer’s star theory paradox that ‘The star must be both present and absent’ ; although the artist is not physically there, they are communicating to their fans.  The website is also a place for the artist to inform the audience about their latest album, tours and merchandise.

A website is an ever-changing piece of marketing and advertising that changes as the artist grows. It gives live updates to what the artist is up to so that they are current with their audience. Apart from advertising and selling their image,  it is a method for the artist to sell concert tickets, albums, merchandise and other artist related products.
